2022 Finals : It’s Hania and Mostafa

Just four were players left in contention for the 10th El Gouna International titles, with two titles to be claimed at the Conference & Cultural Centre.

Top seed Nouran Gohar was appearing in her second successive El Gouna final, and looked to be on course to her first title as she dominated the opening phase of the women’s final. Gohar was in dominant form while Hania El Hammamy was making error after error, and at 11-4, 11-2, 3-0 a quick finish looked on the cards. But somehow Hania settled, found the form she showed in earlier rounds, and completed one of the most astonishing comebacks of recent times.

Men’s top seed Paul Coll was also playing his second El Gouna final in a row, but he too suffered a second loss as Mostafa Aal picked up where he left off against Ali Farag in the semis, leading from the start as he took a two game lead and accelerating away in the third to claim the title.

This is the third major title that Hania and Mostafa have won together, following their triumphs at the British Junior Open and WSF World Juniors in 2019.
