R1 : Lucy/Cindy

Lucy Turmel (ENG) 3-0 Cindy Merlo (SUI) 11-1, 11-7, 11-5 (23m)

World No.23 Lucy Turmel booked her spot in the last 32 after an accomplished performance against Switzerland’s Cindy Merlo saw her win in straight games.

Turmel had won all four of their previous meetings by 3-0 scorelines, and the 22-year-old from Ipswich looked full of confidence as she put her opponent to the sword, winning 11-1, 11-7, 11-5 in 23 minutes to set up a second round encounter with Belgium’s Nele Gilis.

“It was a decent start, it was good to get on court and play a first round match on there. Hopefully I’ll get better and build on that ready for tomorrow.

“I felt confident with what I needed to do going into the match because I’d played her before, so it helped me have a lot of clarity with my plan.

“Tomorrow is going to be tough, Nele is very tough and physical, so I’m going to have to put some good squash together tomorrow.”
