Yes I felt he was not really focused in the match really. He tried to play in the first game until 7/7, he was quite solid, it was a mix of both, I was not playing well and he was still feeling the court.

But after the first game, he gave up totally, 11/0, and in the third, I was up 6/0, 7/0.. But I’m glad to be through.

Tomorrow, I am playing Greg Marche, I’m very excited because the first time I played on tour, the very first time was on that court one, in 2017, and I played with him. And he killed me 3/0. So I’m excited to play with him one more time in this tournament.

I just want to enjoy the moment and play well, I haven’t played well for  a while, but hopefully, I can play well tomorrow Insh’Allah.

Greg Lobban (SCO) 3-1 Alan Clyne (SCO)  11-8, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6 (98m)

Attritional comes to mind. Just have a look at the length of the games:

It’s one of those matches where the score really, seriously doesn’t tell you the full story. Alan managed to force HIS pace – slow to mid pace – onto his team mate and probably (surely) good mate. And that forced Greg to dig in and “grind it down” really.

It was probably not the match he wanted to play, but the WR33 finally got the better of the WR47, and will need to have a good rest tonight tomorrow to face Marwan on his homeland.

It’s difficult to play your team mate. The court is quite bouncy, and wasn’t that rewarding at the start. And it didn’t help we weren’t supposed to play against each other up to three days ago!

We spent a week training here on these courts. We know where the ball is going quite well, and it was difficult to find the space today.

I feel I didn’t play like I wanted to but I just had to grind it away, and make sure I won the last point, and that’s what I did.

I’m facing Marwan next, it’s always tough, when you make it to the second round in these events, it’s going to be tough. No real thoughts, I know he is playing well, but for those guys that played the quarters, semis of the World Champs it’s really tough to back it up so I know I’ve got a chance, as good a chance as any tomorrow, and I know he is going to be fired up tomorrow as well as he is playing in Egypt so, probably going to be a good one, and looking forward to it.
